Mission:

The mission of Dugway is to test U.S. and Allied biological & chemical defense systems; perform Nuclear Biological Chemical survivable testing of defense material; provide support to chemical and biological weapons conventions; and Operate and maintain an installation to support test mission. The Chemical Demilitarization Section of the Utah Division of Solid and Hazardous Waste regulates the waste management associated with laboratory operations, testing, open burning open detonation, clean-up of contaminated sites, and facility maintenance. Dugway is regulated through interim status rules through a RCRA Part B Storage Permit, and other applicable RCRA regulations. The Chemical Demilitarization Section also has an oversight program to ensure compliance with permit conditions and all other RCRA regulations.

Location:

Dugway is located approximately 80 miles west-southwest of Salt Lake City, Utah in Tooele County.

Control:

Dugway is controlled by the U.S. Army Test Command (TECOM). The chemical laboratory, permitted storage area, and many test related activities are operated under contract.
